Processing

Our staff of experienced document processing professionals supports a number of alternatives for processing your hard copy and electronic documents for review and production. Many service providers only process electronic files and not hard-copy documents, or they outsource processing altogether. However, IE Discovery can deliver all processing alternatives to support your organization’s needs.

The benefit to you?
The conversion of documents and data into a unified format, which attorneys can easily review using our InfoDox® platform or other hosted platforms, expedites the review and production phases of litigation. IE Discovery offers itemized services to maximize the flexibility your organization requires, enabling support of hard-copy and electronic documents in native format or converted to image. Our flexible approach allows your organization to begin working with some documents as soon as the information is stored in the platform repository, even as other information is still being processed. Some of the processing services we offer include:

Hard-Copy Processing
IE Discovery provides a full range of processing capabilities for hard-copy collections, including: box and folder level inventory of the collection; document preparation and reassembly; electronic or physical Bates numbering; imaging; and Optical Character Recognition (OCR). Document preparation includes removing all fasteners (staples, paper clips, etc.), inserting slip-sheets between documents, and can even include tracking master/attachment ranges such as a fax cover sheet attached to a cover letter attached to a report. IE Discovery employs workflow-tracking software to manage the imaging process, and each image undergoes automated Quality Assurance (QA) processing and manual Quality Control (QC) review to ensure a high quality of resulting images. When necessary, IE Discovery can deploy resources to your organization’s site to conduct document preparation/reassembly and scanning, thereby keeping your documents in-house and available for your concurrent use.

Electronic Processing
IE Discovery offers a full-range of processing capabilities for electronic file collections, including: restoring archives from backup tapes or other media; file-level inventory of all media; virus-checking; de-duplication; de-NISTing; conversion; and electronic Bates numbering of electronic files. When restoring files from media, our software systems manage the process of copying the files without disturbing metadata. This minimizes the possibility of altered files and spoliation claims. We provide both exact de-duplication as well as near-duplicate identification using some of the industry’s leading software tools. Near-duplicate groupings are carried forward to review platforms to speed up and increase the quality and consistency of reviews.

Conversion services include: creating TIFF and PDF images; extracting text and metadata; providing informative placeholders for files which cannot be processed; detecting/OCR scanning image-only files; auto-populating coded document information from metadata where appropriate; auto-populating inventory and source information; manually processing agreed-upon file types; inserting placeholders for empty or unusable files; and 100% human QC.

Processing can occur either immediately upon receipt of files or following culling of the collection through our ECA offering.
